Day Three

After capturing Rattata, I kept searching the grass until I found Pidgey again. This was another easy capture.

Looking forward to tomorrow. I think I've finally caught all the pokemon there are to see on route one, and I can move on to Veridian City and beyond.

Day Two

It turns out before I can go off and start capturing some pokemon, my rival wanted to duel. I felt pretty hopeless since he has my favourite pokemon, Charmander, and I only have Bulbasaur. Isn't Bulbasaur week against Charmander anyway?

Like every good self-fulfilling prophecy, I lost that match. I guess the best way to be a trainer is to be confident in the abilities of my pokemon, and not go into the match thinking my team is inferior. I'll take that away and see how my new attitude handles future battles.

That duel finished, I hang my head in defeat and begin my journey to Veridian City. Along the way I run into some wild pokemon I haven't seen before.

Sadly, I don't have any pokeballs and I can't capture them. Oh well, at least the incomplete entries can go into my pokedex. Plus, I now know where these two are when I do have some pokeballs.

In Veridian City I found that the store wouldn't sell me anything. Instead they gave me a package to return to Professor Oak. After finishing that, the professor gave me some pokeballs so I can start capturing and growing my team out.

First on my list, Pidgey and Rattata. I ran into Rattata first. Weakened him until he was almost dead and tossed out my pokeball.

Success!
One more pokemon captured. It feels like I still have a huge task ahead of me, but at least I have a solid start -- unless you count my loss against my rival.

Day One

I have never played a Pokemon game.

I've always been interested though. There are over 600 different types of Pokemon. What is it about them that have caused millions of people to play over and over trying to complete their collections and catch them all? In an effort to find out, I decided to issue myself a challenge:

I'm going to capture one Pokemon a day, every day, until I've caught them all.

I originally planned to start with the original GameBoy games, but I've done some research and found that those versions cannot be transferred into the newer games. Since I really want to complete the collection and don't want to catch the same Pokemon over and over, I'll be starting with the GameBoy Advance games. Specifically FireRed and LeafGreen since I want to begin at the beginning.

So today, I started my challenge with Pokemon LeafGreen.

I was given a choice of a Pokemon to start with: Charmander, Squirtle, or Bulbasaur. Seeing as Bulbasaur is on the title screen, I chose him. I'm naturally pulled to Charmander since I love fire, but I think I'll be using him for FireRed.

Well, that's my Pokemon captured for the day. Today was easy.
